Carrasco scratched from Triple A start

POSTED: Wednesday, July 29, 2009, 11:37 AM

Some potentially interesting developments as the trade deadline approaches at Triple A Lehigh Valley this morning.

Pitcher Carlos Carrasco was scratched from his scheduled start this morning against Columbus. There is no indication that Carrasco is hurt.

Shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson also were not in the Ironpigs' lineup. However, Donald is coming off knee surgery and was not scheduled to play with an early day game after a night game. Marson caught last night and also might be sitting out for the same reason.

An earlier report that outfielder Michael Taylor was not playing for Lehigh Valley is incorrect.

Meanwhile, ESPN.com is reporting that the Indians have three scouts at the Triple A game, possibly pointing to the acquisition of Cliff Lee.

Phillies scout Charley Kerfeld watched Lee pitch Sunday. He was in Seattle last night to see Jarrod Washburn and is scheduled to be there again today to see Toronto's Roy Halladay.

In another move, the Phillies promoted Scott Mathieson from Clearwater to Double A Reading. Lefthander reliever Jason Mackintosh was placed on the disabled list. Mathieson's promotion does not appear related to a potential deal, but he could be a late-season bullpen option for the Phillies if his recovery is coming along as well as reported.

More to come ...

Could be gamesmanship. If Phils sign Lee early, Toronto gets screwed. Phils offer best package for Haladay, if Cleveland agrees to a deal, we have one more chance to go back to Toronto with a take it or leave substitution of Carasco for Drabek in what they want and Roy comes to Philly. With Phils out of the way, Toronto bargaining power with others severely reduced. This is a staring contest and this breaking news is all part of it. Will be interesting couple odays.

Omg What a move...People in this town want halladay and so do i but getting lee(cy young winner last year pitching great this year with no run support) for Carlos, lou, and jason would be the steal of the year...just think Hamels, lee, Blanton, Drebak and Happ next year great move

I don't understand how Phillies fans can be upset about getting an inexpensive Cy Young winner for two postseasons for B grade prospects. It's a great move if the deal is for Cassaco, Donald, and Marson

I'm fantasizing about us getting both Lee and Halladay; Happ would expendable if we got Lee

Why not trade Happ, Drabek, and Brown for Halladay now? Could you imagine Halladay, Hamels, Lee, Blanton, Moyer/Martinez?

Isn't this really interesting :) The Phils are contemplating getting a true #1 pitcher, doesn't matter who, they are actually trying to deal for one of these fellows! Those of us that are north of 50 find this truely amazing, do you folks know how tight the purse strings were tied for oh so many years. C'mon, everyone smile big, this is good "Real Good"...

This is about the postseason. It is not about the rest of this season. Does anybody here think Cliff Lee is a stopper in the playoffs? I hope I'm wrong, but with Doc you have as close to a sure bet as there is. Is it worth trading the farm? YES YES YES YES YES YES YES

Fantastic deal. Congrats to Rubie. He retained Drabek, Happ, Taylor and Brownie and moved minor leaguers for a super southpaw. As I said earlier, his close to the vest negotiating style paid dividends. We are suddenly starter rich !!!

I think that Lidge's problems are one of the roots here. Rube might be thinking he has to trade for a closer, and now has the guys left to do it. Even though I would still want to see Halladay, I think the Jays stuck to their ridiculous asking price.
