Carlos Ruiz had three large boxes resting next to his locker stall inside the Phillies clubhouse on Tuesday afternoon.
Inside the boxes? Dozens of the bobblehead bearing his likeness, which will be given away to fans at Citizens Bank Park tonight. So what will Ruiz do with three boxes of bobbleheads?
"I’ll probably give them to friends and some for my family," Ruiz said.
Ruiz, of course, would rather talk about catching tonight's game or getting a game-winning hit in last night's game. He's been on the disabled list since May 21 with a right hamstring strain.
Ruiz has taken steps toward returning to the field in each of the last two days.
On Monday, he ran without pain. On Tuesday, Ruiz took swings for the first time in the indoor batting cages.
"It was almost full and regular BP," Ruiz said. "It feels good. I feel real close."
Ruiz said he'll likely go on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Lehigh Valley or Double-A Reading next week. He expects to return from the DL when the Phils return from their upcoming three-city trip through Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Denver.
