Pat Burrell is returning to the San Francisco Giants.

The former Phillie has agreed to a 1-year discounted contract to stick with the World Series champions, according to the San Jose Mercury-News. The report did not cite terms of the contract.

Burrell, 34, came to the Giants in May via waivers from Tampa Bay, which was paying him $9 million last season.

He became the everyday leftfielder, hitting 18 home runs in 289 at-bats, although he would struggle in the postseason, including going 0-for-13 with 11 strikeouts in the World Series. He was 3-for-22 with one RBI in the Giants' victory over the Phillies in the National League Championship Series.

What Burrell's role is for 2011 is unclear, although he likely will be more of a role player with a salary in line with that expectation.
