How much would losing Burrell affect the Phils?
It's a huge loss
It's bad, but they can overcome it
It won't make a difference
They might be better off

The news is coming fast and furious today. . .

Pat Burrell left batting practice today after experiencing discomfort in his lower back while taking a swing. He left the field, gingerly walking down the steps before disappearing into the clubhouse.

The official word from the Phillies is that he will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

I have no idea how serious it might be.

Burrell is one of the few Phillies who had success against Brewers righthander Yovani Gallardo last season. Burrell hit a solo home run off the young starter in the seventh inning of the Phillies' eventual loss.

Gallardo will start Game One on Wednesday.

I don't expect to hear anything else tonight, so stay tuned tomorrow.

I hope is nothing serious. He can take the day off tomorrow, which will allow Charlie to put an extra lefty in the lineup against the rookie Gallardo. Now, he is going to be needed big time on Thursday against Sabathia.

Will we see Werth in left and Jenkins in right for Game 1? Jenk at least knows this Gallardo kid, plus he's a lefty against a righty. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer if Burrell was OK.

i would be upset if burrell gave us anything in the past 4 months. matt stairs here we come. hit jimmy 1, shane 2, chase 3, werth 4, howard 5 (or vice versa with werth vs rhp) stairs 6, feliz/dobbs 7, ruiz/coste 8. no difference

lets hope pat is ok for tomm, but I don't see how a back can feel much better in less than 24 hrs (that's without swinging a bat with force) Anyway pretty simple here..werth goes to LF and Jenkins gets the nod in RF

No big loss. Jenkins, the former Brewer will pick up the slack and more. He will become a Legend. In GEOFF we Trust.

If Burrell's out, I'd rather see Stairs than Jenkins. Would Charlie really consider Jenkins? It's the Brewers, sure -- but Jenkins is 0-7 against them this year and is, well, Jenkins. I'd rather have him cheerleading than playing.

Is Jenkins even on the roster?

They have until tomorrow morning to submit the roster. If he wasn't in the plans, you can bet he will now.

I know Pat hasn't hit well the past 2 months, but he did have some clutch hits and solid AB's down the stretch. Unlike most of our hitters, he knows how to work the count (see his walk totals for the season) and make the opposing pitcher throw a ton of pitches. This is a substantial blow if it is serious and he is out for several games. The others will need to step it up as they have all month long.

I would start Dobbs in right or left, and Feliz at 3rd. You get the defense in at 3rd, and Dobbs is better in the OF than Burrell.
