Brown, De Fratus recalled
Paul Hagen
The Phillies recalled outfielder Domonic Brown and righthander Justin De Fratus and selected the contracts of catcher Erik Kratz, lefthander Joe Savery and outfielder Brandon Moss from Triple A Lehigh Valley, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said tonight.
Brown, 24, hit .261 with six doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI in 41 games for Lehigh Valley this season. In 89 career games with the Phillies, Brown has a .237 average with seven home runs and 32 RBI, including a .246 average in 54 games earlier this season.
De Fratus went 6-3 with a 2.99 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 75.1 innings between Reading and Lehigh Valley this season. The 23-year-old went 2-3 with a 3.73 ERA in 28 games for the IronPigs following his promotion to triple-A.
Kratz, 31, hit .288 with 19 doubles, 15 HR and 53 RBI in 103 games with Lehigh Valley this season. He was selected to the International League’s midseason All-Star team in July.
Savery finished the regular season 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA for Lehigh Valley. He struck out 26 batters in 25 innings and held lefthanded hitters to a .192 average (5-26). Drafted as a starting pitcher, Savery spent four years on the mound before being converted to a first baseman last fall. He opened the 2011 season at first base for Class A Clearwater and earned Player of the Month honors for April after hitting .450 in 21 games for the Threshers.

Kratz should be playing on the Phillies instead of Schneider right now. Rutgers82- Have you seen the Phillies record when Schneider starts? Give me a catcher who calls a good game over on offensive catcher any day of the week. Remember the name Mike Lieberthal. He played for the Phillies from 94' to 06'. What happened during that time period? NO PLAYOFF APPEARANCES.
oh no not brown.. hardball
Anyone but Brown.....oh Please! Lynnwood
Only one pitcher & no lefties for the pen ? erdrick- I may be mistaken, but I believe Joe Savery is a lefty.

Why are these people down on Brown? Because he didn't come out of the shoot hitting .400 with 50 home runs and 100 RBIs? You would rather have a guy turning 40 stay in left field? Brown has the tools but he has been handled poorly (as many other rookies have been) by the Phillies bumbling, moronic management who really don't know how to nurture and develop young talent as compared to other farm systems. The ones that come through, if you notice are far and few and even those are late bloomers, just take Mayberry.
I don't want to cringe every time Brown comes to the plate and kills the Phillies in an opposing uniform which is what will probably end up happening. Its Manuel who should be fired immediately after the post season for continuing to be the most outrageously incompetent, inept manager in the history of major league baseball and has continued to ride the wave of luck with great teams who owe no credit to him. Take tonight, game on the line and he puts in a rookie when he could have put in Stutes who is as least proven. Regardless, whether its bumbling field decisions or the total inability to communicate or motivate his players, Manuel is a disaster and the day they fire his rear will be a day to celebrate. daystrum- Because they're stupid ...
phillyl0 - Only a moron such of yourself can find a negative in a manager with 97 wins.
sleaker - Brown doesn't deserve to be called up. Why? He wasn't even playing the field during the playoffs for the Pigs. He was a DH. He only had a hit in almost 20 AB with no RBI and runs scores. In the last two games he hit into two rally killing DP and struck out 4 times. He didn't even play last night. He's been terrible since last year. And this is how they compensate him?

Two things will make a great baseball season: first will of course be winning it all and it would even be sweeter if it included the savory aroma of final revenge against the Yankees. Secondly, would be the unequivocal dismissal of Cholly "Bone Head" Manuel immediately following the conclusion of the Series. How sweet that would be! Fantasy is for free. FIRE CHOLLY FIRE CHOLLY FIRE CHOLLY - music to our ears:-) daystrum
