Brewers interested in Moyer
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
Figured I'd pass along another little tid-bit before calling it a night. . .According to the latest from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Brewers have inquired about Jamie Moyer and have some serious interest in the veteran lefthander. We'd heard earlier that Moyer and his agent have been expanding their options beyond Philadelphia, but this is the first time we've been able to put a name and a face on a potential suitor.
Both Moyer and the Phillies have been frustrated with the way talks have gone thus far. Both sides would like to remain united, but there appears to be some difference in opinion on what kind of money it should take to keep Moyer in Philly.
The Brewers are scrambling for pitching now that C.C. Sabathia has elected to sign with the Yankees and Ben Sheets remains a free agent. Right now, Milwaukee is looking at the possibility of heading into next season with Yovani Gallardo as its staff ace.
We'll see if this latest revelation gets things moving on the Moyer front.

Let him get more suitors. He wants to be on the East Coast near his family. He is just playing "hardball." It would be nice to sign him, but not at too much of a price; there are better options out there. So he can line up all of the teams he wants, but let them pay the premium. mdhnyc
You had a good run here Jamie, good luck in Milwaukee. Now lets move our efforts to getting Lowe and Ibanez here. robm0202
I really thought he would take a discount to stay in Philly. 2 years $19 million? Is he serious? I know he had good numbers in the regular season, but he was the #4 starter in the playoffs and had a 8.49 ERA. 93phils
To all of you who find it so easy to dismiss Moyer as a potential PHILLIE for next year, you have no understanding of the "negotiating game"...Get a clue!! You make me want to puke! PK PhillyTheKid
Love to have Moyer stay...if nothing else, he can keep Cole's mouth shut, but how much can you overpay for a guy nearing social security retirement age? I really think he wants to be here and is using other teams to get the Phils to pay as much as he can...and what's wrong with that? phillybob
The Phillies are not even in the game for breakdown Burnett and overpriced CC and Lowe. It is the price at $15 million or more and number of years at greater than three. Therefore, GM Amaro please just guarantee the second year to Moyer with the provision that if he can't pitch well anymore it converts to a service agreement for $500,000 per year for 20 years or $1 million per year for 10 years as a pitching instructor, coach, or advisor. He has proven that he can have a positive influence on the pitching staff even when he is not throwing the ball. $10 million a year for two years is a bargain when looking at his stats compared to other pitchers, especially at CB Park. Plus at about $5 million per year since he arrived, he has been a bargain to the team. Certainly a lot better than the $8 million that has been paid to Eaton with his limited contribution or knowledge transfer. Once this is done as it should be soon, GM Amaro should seek to add Schilling to the rotation, when available and healthy. He has already expressed a desire to end his career as a Phillie. He would also be a positive influence on the staff, sharing what was passed down to him about pitching from Johnny Podres, former Phillies Pitching Coach, and Roger Clemens. I can see him helping to refine or teach the splitter. GM Amaro should also turn attention to locking up Hamels to a long term deal and providing extensions to Myers and Blanton. These actions seem more prudent and effective to me by having five pitchers at $5 to $12 million than having one pitcher at $23 or $25 million as with the Yankees or Mets, leaving little room for other needs. Just imagine a rotation of Hamels, Myers, Moyer, Schilling, and Blanton. Unbelievable! dross
Schilling is so over,,,,he is the Conlin of pitching mick314
Mick314 don't delude yourself. If Schilling is healthy, he would win a minimum of 10 games with a low ERA. That is more than can be said for a number of the perennial potential young bucks, stiffs, and breakdown artists out there now collecting a check and calling themselves pitchers. dross
dross, you just made my morning, that suggestion to get schilling is the funniest thing I have heard in awhile, and the part were he would be a positive influence is great comedy. Let me tell you something Schilling will never set foot in a phillies dugout again, you can take that to the bank!!!!! geoff02
Ibanez will be in Phils dugout http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3764268 RG
For the love of God, NO!!! GREAT, we just got a 36 yr old outfielder for the same money we could have had Burrell for. Amaro YOU ARE A MORON!!!! I am going to offically starting the, FIRE JUNIOR website, this guy is going to kill the phils because he feels he needs to put his finger prints all over this team just to prove he can win too. Guess what, he didn't learn much under Gilick!!! Who do you think is the happiest about this, one word the METS!!! No more Burrell! geoff02
Geoff02- you are clueless. Ibanez is a much better hitter than Burrell, he consistenly hits close to 300, with 20+ home runs and 100+ RBI. The only downside is that he is left handed. And for 10 mil a year, that's cheaper than Burrell. Gary Varsho
Considering the Mets were strongly interested in Ibanez, I don't think they're happy right now. Guess what, "geoff" - Pat hit .197 against the Mets last season with ONE HR and TWO RBI. tjc
Hey Varsho, MORON, take a look at some facts, that is if you can read! Want Stats here are some stats: Ibanez: .286 avg, .346 OBS, .427 SLG, and .818 OPS Burrell: .257 avg, ..367 OBS, .485 SLG, and .852 OPS these are career stats for both, and Burrell is 32 yrs old, I take Burrell!!! geoff02
There are pluses and minuses to this. He was cheaper than the original offer to burrell (or what he woulda got in abr) per year. He hits lefties better than burrell, is more consistent, and is probably a slight upgrade defensively. on the minus side, less power and les walks and obp. RG
Ruben: You committed your first strike with Ibanez. What do you do now? Trade away the future? wiseoldowl
How is this a strike? We don't know how this will work out at all. did they trade away the future for Blanton? how'd that work out? I love the phrickin' whininess of the fans. They just won a World Series, cut them some slack. RG
I hope somebody's called Jon Garland's agent. jp
Good job Rubie. The I-Man is a good fit. Now, ask Daddy Paddy if you can up the ante on Moyer and sign him for two !! mick314
Rumor has it that ChanHo is really Carl Pavano is Asian drag. mick314
Maybe its time to move on. If jamie is being too unrealistic than what else can you do. Wally 24
geoff - get a clue - its about RBI's - and Ibanez produces more than Burrell every year. And that is on a bad team. In this lineup, expect his RBI production to go up. He's the model of consistency, doesn't go through half season long slumps. The only thing he doesn't do is walk as much as Burrell. Gary Varsho
