Breaking down the Phillies' 2014 payroll

Here is a list of most of the candidates for the Opening Day roster, which has to be trimmed down to 25, and their 2014 salaries.

The Phillies have 17 players under contract for a total of $158.83 million in 2014. The rest of the 25-man roster will likely be made up of pre-arbitration eligible players (like Domonic Brown and Cody Asche) or non-roster players that make the club out of camp (Bobby Abreu).

Here is a list of most of the candidates for the Opening Day roster, which has to be trimmed down to 25, and their 2014 salaries. The salaries of pre-arbitration players (generally in the $500,000 range) between will be determined at some point in the next 8 weeks, when the Phillies renew their contracts. 


Ryan Howard - $25 million
Chase Utley - $15 million
Jimmy Rollins - $11 million
Cody Asche - pre-arbitration
Kevin Frandsen - $900,000
Freddy Galvis - pre-arbitration
Reid Brignac  - non-roster player
Ronny Cedeno - non-roster player


Domonic Brown - pre-arbitration
Ben Revere - $1.95 million
Marlon Byrd - $8 million
Darin Ruf - pre-arbitration Bobby Abreu - non-roster player (earns $800,00 if on MLB roster)
John Mayberry Jr. - $1.59 million
Tony Gwynn Jr. - non-roster player


Carlos Ruiz - $8.5 million
Wil Nieves - $1.12 million


Cole Hamels - $22.5 million
Cliff Lee - $25 million
Kyle Kendrick - $7.67 million
Roberto Hernandez - $4.5 million
Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez  - $4 million
Jonathan Pettibone - pre-arbitration
Jonathan Papelbon - $13 million
Mike Adams - $7 million
Antonio Bastardo - $2 million
Chad Gaudin - non-roster player
