Blanton to be examined by team doc tomorrow

POSTED: Wednesday, March 31, 2010, 3:39 PM

The Phillies received another piece of bad news today, as righthander Joe Blanton pulled up short during his bullpen session with an injured abdominal muscle.

Blanton, who allowed 11 runs in his most recent outing, was scheduled to pitch again on Saturday in an exhibition against the Pirates. His first scheduled start is April 8, a week from tomorrow.

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said that Blanton will see team doctor Michael Ciccotti tomorrow.

"We'll know tomorrow," Amaro said about the severity of the injury.

Catcher Carlos Ruiz missed today's game after getting hit on the elbow by a pitch on Monday. But Amaro said Ruiz could have played. The team was simply being cautious.

Looks like KK will start the season in the rotation after all. Good thing everybody complained about Moyer getting the 5th spot.

We're screwed. Lidge, Blanton, Ruiz are surely done for the season. Is Pedro still available????

Blanton needs a bigger belt to keep in all those abdominal muscles.
