Kris Benson has had a minor set-back in his recovery from shoulder surgery.

Benson will miss start with biceps tendinitis

Phillies right-hander Kris Benson will miss a scheduled minor league start tomorrow, but hopes to return to the mound in about a week. The veteran starter, whom the team is hoping will slip into the rotation sometime in May, has experienced soreness in his right arm since throwing a minor league game Thursday. Benson labelled the soreness "biceps tendinitis," although that is not an actual medical diagnosis.

Both player and team are hopeful that he will return to the mound for his next scheduled appearance. Neither side would rule out Benson appearing in a Grapefruit League game before the team heads north.

That said, this all but assures that Benson will begin the season somewhere in the minor leagues.

In other news, Brad Lidge will pitch a simulated game Thursday and could see his first Grapefruit League action Saturday or Sunday.

More later, and in tomorrow's paper.
