A quick look at new Phillies reliever Josh Lindblom
David Murphy, Daily News Staff Writer
The Phillies have traded long-time centerfielder Shane Victorino to the Dodgers for 25-year-old reliever Josh Lindblom, Double-A starter Ethan Martin and a player to be named later or cash, the team announced. First impression is that Ruben Amaro Jr. got about as much as could be expected in return for Victorino, who had a rough first three months of the season but has started to hit better as of late.
Lindblom entered the season as the eighth-rated prospect in the Dodgers organization, according to Baseball America. He is a 25-year-old right-hander with solid strikeout and walk rates -- 8.1 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 -- but a propensity for giving up home runs (nine in 47 2/3 innings this season). In 48 appearances he has a 3.02 ERA. He has converted all 15 of his hold opportunities, but has blown both of his save opportunities. He has stranded 10 of 16 inherited runners. He is an extreme fly ball pitcher, averaging just 0.55 ground balls per fly ball in his two years in the majors. But he clearly upgrades the Phillies' bullpen.
UCLA co-eds.....watch out! Wilhelm Von Humboldt
Thanks for the memories, Shane! Mr. Underhill
Still too much money tied up in 7 guys for next year...really would be nice to get rid of one of the 3 long term contracts. lazyboy
At this point I think it's a trade that benefits both clubs. However......
I don't like the idea of Rich Dubee coaching my pitchers anymore. He's stood by Halladay in spring trainning knowing there was something wrong with the guy.......he's stood by watching Cliff Lee have the worst year of his career with seeming no input on helping the guy..........under his watch Bastardo has regressed to the point where he is 50/50 in getting out of an inning unscathed. Papelbon has become an adventure in the ninth much like Brad Lidge in his years after 2008. And under his tutelage, Hamels has never been a 20 game winner or Cy Young winner. It would be preferable to clean house with the on-field management today and bring in Sandberg to skipper this club into the future. I wonder if RAJ has ever approached Leo Mazzone to come in and lead this pitching corps? We cannot go into the future with Charlie (bless him for what he has delivered for that may never be equaled again in decades!, Mackanin, Dubee, Samuel and Perlozzo. I want new blood coaching up a guy like Brown, who is going to need major league tutelage. Will any of this happen? Probably not out of respect to Charlie, who deserves that recognition. Dubee? Not so much. I don't like the idea of this new pitcher coming in under his non-watchful eye! DelawareRiverRat
plenty of time to evaluate this trade, but i'd like to take a minute to recognize shane victorino on a message board that he will never read. This dude was a centerpiece for our best years. He mad monumental home runs against the brewers and dodgers in 08. He had an awesome attitude and was a great defeneder. Certainly, he was not a perfect player as exhibited by his occasiaional bone-headed play or baserunning mistake, but, in my opinion, he shoudl be beloved in this city. He was a major contributor to a team that won a world series and that is Best of luck shane. AndyReidsMustache- Well said..... Guy deserves a BIG OL Thank You from the city, whenever he returns, and whoever he returns with. Every page has to turn, and every run has to come to an end sometime. Sometime the thrill is seeing it built back up. Question is, how many bandwagon fans will stay for the ride while that happens.

And the kid gave up no HRs last year. Relievers tend to have streaky years and he's still young, so not a big deal. His fastaball tops out at 93-95 mph. Of course he's going to be a fly-ball pitcher. You don't get many soft-tossing, sinkerball pitchers at the back end of the bullpen. Papelbon is a flyball pitcher too. This kid strikes out almost a guy per inning over the last 2 years. Power relievers are in there to strike guys out, not induce groundballs. JimG
Flip the pitchers and whomever we get from San Francisco (do we need another AA catcher?) to San Diego for Chase Headly. Lindblom would do well in spacious Petco Park. The K Man
Extreme fly ball pitcher in the Bank until 2015? He does have a good strikeout rate though and should be better than Qualls. Ethan Martin was the #9 ranked prospect in the dodgers system in 2011, he's not in the top 10 this year though. 46 and 2
Good Luck Vic and Pence. hawaiiphillyfan
Wow, so many GM's on here!! It's amazing how many of you think you know so much of what you are talking about. I bet anyone on here that the Phillies will be contending again next year. Just one of those years. The Red Sox is having one this year, the Yankees have had them, the Braves, the Mets, everyone. Why can't the Phillies. But stop it with all this, WHAT THEY SHOULD DO. If you had all this knowledge, someone would have noticed and you would be working in some MLB organization. But you don't, so you're not. hawaiiphillyfan
Great move Get rid of the guys who busted it Keep the hustling shortstop. I feel good now dimaggio
Vic - we miss you already. Thanks so much for always playing 110% - I just wish that was contagious. Hunter, you were only here for one year, but I loved your combination of big league skills mixed with little league enthusiasm. God speed to both of you! dwp66
The LAST player the Phils -Rube - should have traded.
Ruben, try trading Howard. You signed him, now show us your chops and trade him.
All the best for Lindblom, but it figures our fearless GM trades for a fly-ball pitcher. Clueless doesn't describe him... Cameiros
Not sure if i like this. Somebody tell me if this is
a good trade or not. associate
