Utley scratched from lineup vs. Yankees

POSTED: Tuesday, February 26, 2013, 1:00 PM

UPDATED (1:22 p.m.): Utley was in fact scratched as a precaution since the Phillies are playing on a field drenched by a morning rain storm. Carry on.

And so it begins...

Or doesn't.

Frankly, we don't know just yet why Chase Utley was scratched from today's lineup minutes before the Phillies were to take the field against the New York Yankees at Bright House Field.

There was a tornado watch in the area today and heavy rain throughout the morning. The field got pretty wet.

Chase Utley, of course, has a pair of bad knees. They prevented him frmo playing any spring training games in each of the last two years.

So, perhaps it was a precautionary move, to keep Utley off a wet field.

But Ryan Howard is playing. So is Jimmy Rollins. And Michael Young, and Domonic Brown and Ben Revere...

Utley was set to play in his third game in four days before being scratched. And, if you include the intrasquad on Friday, his fourth game in five days.

When we know more, we'll pass it along.

Here is the adjusted Phillies lineup.

1. Jimmy Rollins, SS

2. Ben Revere, CF

3. Kevin Frandsen, 2B

4. Ryan Howard, 1B

5. Michael Young, DH

6. Domonic Brown, LF

7. Laynce Nix, RF

8. Cody Asche, 3B

9. Steven Lerud, C

Kyle Kendrick is pithcing.

Why are the Phils DHing on the home field? Don't their pitchers need ABs?

Please don't let Chase be hurting too much already. No way should he play this much this early.

Here's an idea: don't write a column about why Utley is scratched until you know why Utley is scratched.

Sorry if that means you'll have to go do your job or something.

Revere, Brown, Nix, Mayberry, Ruf? The Tonner feels like Jack in A few Good Men...please tell the Tonner Rube hasn't pinned the season's hope on foot lockers and phone records. Worst OF in a long time.

Inclimate weather, changing from hot to cold and pressure, probably makes his bones hurt

No need to worry until there is time to worry. He'll be fine.

Does this mean that poor little Chase won't be allowed to play at all this season when it's wet out??

I like the caution. No need to tweak anything in meaningless games. But, you can understand the apprehension of the fans, with Amaro's unwillingness to divulge the truth about injuries. Glad to see the team came out with a viable excuse to scratch him. Now, all we have to hope is that it's true. Amaro has no credibility when it comes to speaking the truth. None.

Awfully negative number 6. Must be fun to watch Phillies games with that guy.

Yo Snake. It's not an article. It's an up to the minute blog about the starting lineup. Murph puts one out there every day.
