Is Halladay finished for 2012?
Phils reshuffling rotation, but no word on when Roy Halladay will pitch next.
Is Halladay finished for 2012?
Ryan Lawrence, Daily News Staff Writer
When the Phils return to host the Nationals, it's Cole Hamels on Tuesday and Kyle Kendrick on Wednesday. Wednesday would have been Tyler Cloyd's turn in the rotation.
The Phils have "TBA" listed for Thursday.
Roy Halladay has followed Kendrick in the rotation. But the "TBA" means they could plug Cloyd in Thursday instead of Halladay.
Halladay, of course, is coming off the second shortest start of his career. He also recently saw a doctor about spasms in his right shoulder.
But what it says on a piece of paper distributed throuhgout the pressbox two hours before game time on Sunday doesn't necessarily mean Halladay is finished for 2012.
Pitching coach Rich Dubee said the team was undecided how they were moving forward. But perhaps there will be more clarity following Sunday's game.
If the Phils lose, they are in danger of falling five games back of the NL's second wild card with nine games to play.
Why not give Pettibone two starts? s
I pray that he's just hurt and not over the hill. Otherwise, 2013 may look very similar to 2012 when it's all said and done. evolutionary
2012? He's been finished since 2010 lonewolf 10

I think Halladay's time as a No.1 are done. He'll make adjustments and comeback next year to be something like 14-11, 3.80...Not great, but not bad for #3 or #4. Of course, he's pulling in #1 dollars Polecat_39
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I capitalize these letters??? YES. He's done for the season. If they let him out there, they should all be fired!!!!! DocPhillyfan- He's not the same pitcher. Something is wrong. I can't believe he has just gone downhill like this. He needs to find a real medical doctor and stay away from the Phillies people.
I was thinking along the same lines as the first poster. I looked at the 40 man roster. No name there seems worthy to make two starts. Jonathan Pettibone seems to be the logical candidate but there are a couple of other pitchers who are just as deserving. PhilsfaninNebraska
Does it really matter? The Phils season is over for this year. It's time to let the young guys play and see what they can do. Halladay has been a great pitcher but it seems like ever since that game in Chicago when he had the heat stroke, he hasn't quite been the same pitcher. I would love to see what his stats are since then...as opposed to what they were before that. I agree with one of the earlier posters that he needs to consult other doctors. There did seem to be a sudden drop in quality that makes one wonder. igglephan
Mark - where are you? We need some sound analysis here! What is YOUR take on Doc? dwp66
Lots of real reasons why you don;t just "give Pettibone a couple starts"
- they only need a guy for 1 start
- is he on the 40 man? [I'm not sure]
- If they bring him up, his 'clock' starts,
- they have to pay him the pro-rated $400K/yr for the rest of the season [which probably doesn't matter re: the luxury tax, but...]
- more importantly - HE HASN'T PITCHED IN A COUPLE WEEKS. You don't just throw a guy out there who has shut it down for the yr windmill91
The Phillies need to put Doc on the shelf for the last week or so of the season. They've got no shot now, realistically, so there's no point in running Roy out there one more time. Clearly (IMO), there's something wrong with his arm/shoulder. He's not the same Doc we're used to seeing, and he should hang up his spikes for 2012. He needs to get his shoulder checked right away and rest up for 2013. doug1834
It comes down to the fact the Uncle Cholly and Dubee ruined another one of Dave Montgomery's prized assets by letting throw so many pitches in so many games. Cholly is definitely not a pitcher's manager - and never will be. Just think what this club could have done the last 4 years if they had a pitcher's manager and good pitching coach like a LaRussa & Duncan. sonnybuoy01
Done for 2012??? LOL, you say that as if you think he's going to bounce back from this endless stream of injuries, get 5 years younger this offseason, and magically get better in his mid-30s??????? Oh, Cheese, you are so the ultimate #fanboybeatwriter. Perfect for a town like Philly that can't be objective about sports because it is pretty much all you have going for you (my apologies to the few on these boards that DO get it). Hey, look at the bright side, you made one helluva of a second half "playoff push!" Curlydubs
Seeing he had an MRI in NY a few months ago and they couldn't find anything outside a strained labrum, I'm inclined to think he's washed up and we have ANOTHER 20 million dollar a year of dead weight on our roster. I guess when you have 60 million dollars tied up in 3 players that can't produce anymore, they will be lowering ticket prices to match the watered down product on the field next season?
