Charlie Manuel's outfield carousel continued on Tuesday in Cincinnati with the way it began five weeks earlier, following the trades of Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino.

In the second of three games in Cincy, it's John Mayberry Jr. in center, Domonic Brown in left and Nate Schierholtz in right. It's the trio that started seven of the nine games following the July 31 trades.

But there has hardly been a set outfield since Victorino and Pence departed.

In fact, in the 32 games the Phils have played since the two All-Star outfielders were traded, Charlie Manuel has trotted out 13 different outfield combinations.

Eight different players started in the outfield over that span: Brown, Mayberry, Schierholtz, Juan Pierre, Laynce Nix, Michael Martinez, Ty Wigginton and Hector Luna.

The most popular combination? Both tonight's trio (Brown in left, Mayberry in center and Schierholtz in right) and the threesome of Mayberry, Brown and Pierre (with Brown in right) have started seven times together.

Manuel has used four different center fielders, five different right fielders and five different left fielders.

Injuries to Brown (knee) and Schierholtz (toe) cost the Phils any chance at having a stable outfield in the wake of the trade deadline deals.

Schierholtz start is his first since Aug. 11. The 28-year-old Schierholtz is hitting .206 with two extra base hits (including a home run in his first game) in 13 games since joining the Phillies in the Pence trade.

Latos can be REALLY nasty, but when he misses, it's right down the middle...dude gives up ALOT of HRs...Get em early, get em often.

What else does Kratz have to do at the plate to show he's significantly much better than hitting in the 8 hole? In the short time he's been up he's demonstrated he's much better (and consistent) at the plate than Dom Brown and Schierholtz. Come on Chollie, hows about thinking outside the box???

With Schierholtz and Brown in the line-up it evokes memories of Mantle and Maris!

-Quixote II - thanks for your standard, always-uplifting words. You and wb should really consider rehab.
