Evening Round-Up: Benson Passes Physical, Howard To Speak Tomorrow, More

This just in. . .

. . .Newly-acquired pitcher Kris Benson has passed his physical, and the Phillies are hopeful that he'll report to camp tomorrow. A lot depends on Benson's schedule. He lives in the Atlanta area, but had to fly to Philadelphia for the physical with team doctor Michael Ciccotti. Once he gets here, we'll try to pick his brain and find out exactly how healthy he is. . .

. . .Ryan Howard will meet the press tomorrow. If any of you out there in High Cheese Nation have any queries you'd like us to toss his way, I'll entertain suggestions. How many jelly beans can he eat in one sitting? How many jelly beans can he buy for $7 million? Like I said, I'll entertain the questions. I won't automatically ask them. . .

. . .Check out this nifty slide show from a fellow David M. -- Daily News photographer David Mialetti. It's pretty fresh. . .

. . .Some props to Cole Hamels for stopping to sign autographs for 15 to 20 fans who were in attendance at the first workout. The fans deserved it - seriously, who in their right mind watches pitchers practicing their pick-off moves for three hours? . . .

. . . Tune in tomorrow morning for the latest news and notes from the Phillies and from around the league.
