Phillies centerfielder Ben Revere eager for home debut
Phillies centerfielder Ben Revere can’t wait to play his first regular season game at Citizens Bank Park. Speaking by his locker before this afternoon’s home opener against the Kansas City Royals, Revere, who was acquired from the Minnesota Twins, is expected to ignite the Phillies offense with his speed.
As far as he is concerned, the opener couldn’t come soon enough.
“First (regular season) game in a new ball park, I know how excited the Phillies fans are,” Revere said. “I am excited, it’s going to be a big festival today so I am really pumped up about it.”
Revere was at Citizens Bank Park last week when the Phillies played two exhibition games last week, but understands that was just a dress rehearsal.
He admits that to his nerves will be getting the best of him early on.
“You always get butterflies in the stomach but after that first at-bat will be gone,” Revere said. “Playing before a new crowd, a new organization, you definitely do.”
He said he experienced the same nervous feeling last year while playing for the Twins in the opener.
And he has envisioned how his first game will be at Citizens Bank Park. Revere won’t have to wait long to hear the crowd’s reaction since he is once again the Phillies lead-off hitter.
“When I see everybody standing on their feet and cheery, it will get me really pumped up and get my blood pumping,” revere said. “I think everybody is going to be ready for it.”
Revere has three hits in his first 14 at-bats (.214) with two runs and two stolen bases in the first three games in Atlanta.

Like the guy, and he runs out ALL grounders. NewMick314
great addition, and he's so young with experience growing WFChamps
It's nice to have some young players in key roles who get excited about playing and doing their best. Phillies2008WSChamps
frankly I hope I'm wrong (and I see comments from a few posters whom I respect who say they like his game) but so far (meaning based on his career to date and his first 3 games as a Phillie) this guy is not a decent lead-off hitter and not a significant addition to an offensively-challenged lineup warbiscuit
Biggest drawback to Revere as #1 vs. Rollins? Pitcher sacrificing to move runner(s( into scoring position: Ben not much of a threat to drive in runs...Jimmy a legitimate threat. Could change outcome of game.

Revere's biggest asset is his upside. Hopefully he'll continue to develop and become a solid leadoff hitter who can hit for average, get on base and steal bases. It may not happen this season but hopefully he can keep getting better. Phillies2008WSChamps
