Sold: Old City’s Henry Harrison house

An Old City home that was built and owned by onetime Philadelphia mayor Henry Harrison in 1760 has sold for $500,000.

An Old City home that was built and owned by onetime Philadelphia mayor Henry Harrison in 1760 has sold for $500,000.

The row home, located on the 100 block of Cuthbert Street, first hit the market in March 2013 for $549,900, and was on an off the market for about a year. The home sold in May, according to public records.

The former owners brought this historic home back to life, updating the kitchen and bathrooms, installing crown moldings, and repainting the interior.

The historically certified home was originally part of a trio of row homes that was called Coombes Alley.

Former owner Sarah Apelquest told us last year that Harrison built the three row homes for immigrant families.

"He initially wanted to create a rental place for sailors coming off the boat because the river was right there," she said. "So he did that, and it became the place to live. Different families would live on each floor, and they would share the kitchen."

The colonial home is 1,462-square-feet, and has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
