Pat Croce’s Main Line estate sold for $2.2M

Pat Croce’s Villanova estate has sold at an auction for a little over $2 million.

Pat Croce’s Villanova estate has sold at an auction for a little over $2 million.

There were eight registered bidders at the auction of the former Sixers president's mansion, according to Ed Kaminsky of Premiere Estate Auction Company, which ran the event on Oct. 25.

The bidding for the 10,500-square-foot home on Mount Moro road began at $1.5 million. The new owner won with a bid of $2,227,500.

"It was a good, successful event," Kaminsky said.

The auction company would not disclose the name of the purchaser until the home closes next month, but said the winning bidder is a local resident.

Croce first listed the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom estate last December for $7.5 million, but later dropped the price tag to $6.25 million.

The three-and-a-half acre property has many luxury features: a pool, pool house, tennis court, five fireplaces, and library. The master suite includes three walls of windows, a fireplace, and his-and-her baths.

Croce and his wife, Diane, bought the home in 1993. They decided to sell it now to downsize to a townhouse.

Before the house went to auction, Croce sold many of his fancy furnishings, offering items worth tens of thousands, from European castle locks collected by Houdini (estimated to be worth at least $50,000), to a bronze mermaid (estimated to be worth $750 to $1,500).
