Flacco leaves Camden Catholic

Rising sophomore quarterback Tom Flacco has left Camden Catholic, according to Irish coach Gil Brooks.

Flacco, the brother of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, is regarded as one of South Jersey's top young athletes -- a potential star in both football and baseball.

Flacco started at the end of the season at quarterback for Camden Catholic last season as a freshman. He was a regular on the Irish baseball team as a freshman, batting around .400.

Three of Flacco's older brothers -- Joe, John and Brian -- graduated from Audubon. The family still resides in Audubon, so it's possible that Tom Flacco will enroll in Audubon.

However, a couple of sources have indicated that Tom Flacco is likely to land at another high school, with speculation centering on the possibility of the family moving to the Eastern district with Tom enrolling at Eastern.

Eastern recently hired former Camden Catholic coach Rick Brown as its offensive coordinator.

Eastern also would be an interesting place for Flacco from a baseball standpoint. The Vikings won 22 games this past season with a young team and should be one of the top teams in South Jersey next season as they return second-team All-South Jersey selections in pitcher Steve Volpe and infielder Nick Tierno as well as shortstop Tyler Love.
