Boys' basketball: Dueling showcases this weekend at PVI, CHE

Two boys' basketball events this weekend will showcase most of the top teams in South Jersey.

The new Winter Classic at Paul VI and the traditional Cherry Hill East Invitational will take place Saturday and Sunday.

Most of the teams in the Inquirer Top 25 will play at one of the sites or the other.

The marquee event at Paul VI appears to be No. 1 St. Augustine vs. No. 5 Camden on Saturday at 3 p.m.

At almost the same time, No. 4 Shawnee will play No. 12 Haddonfield with a scheduled  3:30 tipoff at Cherry Hill East.

In all, 20 ranked teams will participate in one of the showcases, with No. 8 Camden Catholic and No. 17 Wildwood Catholic playing in both.
