Brooklawn's loss in the championship game of the American Legion World Series on Wednesday morning marked the end of a glorious era in local baseball history.

The 4-0 loss to a team from New Orleans in a game that started around 11 p.m. Tuesday means the Brookers came up just short of their ultimate goal: Winning the third World Series title in the illustrious 51-year history of the program.

Training camps start in earnest on Monday for SJ football teams, although most clubs have been working out for much of the summer.

It's a good time for the pre-pre-season Top 10, an early look at how the rankings could look when teams take the field for real on the night of Friday, Sept. 7.

A lot will happen between now and then -- injuries, scrimmage results, transfer impacts. So this ranking is certain to change.
