On a cold and snowy day, it's nice to think of spending some time in a warm and crowded gymnasium.
Or two of them.
South Jersey basketball fans will get that chance this Saturday at the day-long, 11-game Jeff Coney Classic at Rancocas Valley High School.
Rancocas Valley coach Jay Flanagan has put together a typically loaded showcase, with 13 teams that are ranked in The Inquirer's South Jersey Top 20 -- including seven Top 10 teams.
The highlight of the event could be the finale, as No. 2 Paul VI (9-1) faces off with No. 6 Rancocas Valley (9-2) in a game scheduled to start around 7:15 p.m.
But that will just be the last game of a long day of high-caliber action in two gymnasiums. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students for all day and fans can move back and forth between gyms and see multiple games.
Another highly anticipated clash will be No. 1 Holy Spirit (9-1) against No. 7 Eastern (9-1), with a scheduled tip at 4:15 p.m.
Other matchups between ranked teams include No. 19 Medford Tech (7-4) vs. No. 8 Paulsboro (10-1); No. 4 Haddonfield (10-0) vs. No. 15 Wildwood Catholic (9-3); and No. 12 Delsea (8-3) vs. No. 17 Pemberton (10-1).
In addition, No. 11 Bishop Eustace (7-4) faces powerful Trenton Catholic, which features junior Malachi Richardson, a Syracuse recruit and one of the state's best players.
South Jersey's leading scorer, Winslow Twp. senior guard Masner Beauplan (24.0 per game) will be in action as his team faces Sterling.
