They lost the coin flip and won everything else.

Washington Township generated 21 hits en route to a 10-3 victory over Watchung Hills in the Group 4 state championship game in softball Sunday at Toms River East.

Coroneos pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and also was 4-for-5 at the plate, scoring two runs.

Senior catcher Kyle Mulholland was 5-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs, and senior first baseman Kristen Turner was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for Washington Township (30-2).

"We wanted this game so bad," Mulholland said. "When we were warming, we could feel it. As soon as we got in the (batters) box, we were so determined."

The Minutemaids seized command of the game in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs on six hits.

Coroneos led off the game with a double to left-center field. Mullholland drove her home with a single, and Turner smacked a home run over the left-field fence for a 3-0 lead.

"That set the tone for the whole game," Coroneos said of the Minutemaids' first at-bat.

Coroneos pitched a no-hitter through five innings. She finished with seven strikeouts.

"She was phenomenal," Mulholland said of Coroneos. "She gave us everything she had on every pitch."

The Minutemaids had at least one hit in every inning. Every batter in the lineup had at least one hit. They had six hits in the first inning and six hits in the seventh.

"We were like, 'How many times have you batted?'" Mulholland said. "We've done it a million times in our lives and this was going to be our last chance for this team."

The victory capped the careers of seniors such as Mulholland, Coroneos, Turner and outfielfer Barb Barron (2-for-4, RBIs).

"We've been together since we were 10," Coroneos said. "To end it like this, it's amazing."
