Basketball: Timber Creek's Reid signs with Niagara

By Phil Anastasia

Dominique Reid played in just five games last season for Timber Creek because of a knee injury.

But the 6-foot-8 forward still earned a Division I basketball scholarship.

Reid on Wednesday signed with Niagara University, according to Timber Creek coach Rich Bolds.

"Once Dom gets healthy, he can dominate that league," Bolds said of Reid, who averaged 20.2 points as a junior.

Reid sustained a knee injury in the spring of 2012. He wasn't about to take the floor for Timber Creek until late February.

He averaged 12 points and seven rebounds and helped the Chargers reach the South Jersey Group 3 final, where they lost to Camden.

"I wish he was healthy for the Camden game," Bolds said.

Niagara plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with programs such as Rider, Marist, Siena, Fairfield and St. Peter's. Niagara was 19-14 last season and made the NIT, losing to Maryland in the first round.

The Purple Eagles have a new coach in Chris Casey.

Bolds said Reid likely will red-shirt next season as he continues to work back from his knee injury.

"It's a good fit for him," Bolds said. "It's really up to Dom. If he can get healthy and continue to improve, he can do very well in that league."
