Soccer: Bishop Eustace's Hanuscin signs with St. Francis

By Phil Anastasia

Bishop Eustace Prep senior soccer star Nick Hanuscin has signed with St. Francis University, a Division I program in Loretto, Pa.

Hanuscin, a top defender and team leader for the Crusaders, also considered signing with Duquesne.

"I feel like it was the right place for me," Hanuscin said. "I like the school, the campus, the coaches and it seems like a great bunch of guys on the team."

Hanuscin's presence in the back made Bishop Eustace one of South Jersey's sturdiest defensive teams in 2012.

"He's one of the best defenders in South Jersey," Bishop Eustace coach John Loiodice said during the season. "I don't know where we'd be without him."

Hanuscin said he plans to major in education, with an emphasis on special education. He could red-shirt next season, leaving him with four years of eligibility.

St. Francis plays in the Northeast Conference with Monmouth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Robert Morris and Long Island-Brooklyn, among other programs.

Timber Creek graduate Andrew Garcia is a sophomore goalietender for the Red Flashes.
