Football: Penns Grove shuts out Highland

By Phil Anastasia

Senior quarterback Nick Elmer ran for 141 yards and a TD, passed for two TDs and ran for three, two-point conversions as Penns Grove beat Highland 52-0 on Friday night.

Junior RB/B Anthony Robertson scored four TDs and senior WR Jabrail Murray caught a pair of TD passes from Elmer.

Penns Grove clinched the WJFL Diamond Division as well the No. 1 seed in the SJ 1 playoffs.

The Red Devils' defense pitched its fifth straight shutout and sixth of the season. PG has outscored its last five opponents by 262-0.

PG has outscored opponents by 416-26 this season. The Red Devils are averaging 52 points per game. The SJ record is 48.4 by Salem in 1996.

"These eight games have been great but we have to keep it going through the playoffs," Elmer said. "We'd love nothing better than to bring a championship back to Penns Grove but we have to take it one game at a time and try to keep getting better."

Highland dropped to 4-5. Depending on the results of other games, the Tartans still could qualify for the SJ 3 tournament.
