Football: St. Joseph beats St. Augustine

Sophomore RB Rocco Ordille ran for three TDs as St. Joseph beat St. Augustine 42-14 in a Cape Atlantic League battles of unbeatens on Saturday.

Ordille ran for 137 yards on just 7 carries as St. Joe, the No. 1 team in The Inquirer Top 10, improved to 7-0 and stretched its winning streak to 25 games.

St. Augustine fell to 6-1.

St. Augustine broke to a 7-0 lead as Calvin Cass scored on a 54-yard run on the game's first possession. But St. Joe scored the next 35 points to take command.

Senior QB Anthony Giagunto was 9-for-17 passing for 112 yards and a TD and also ran for 48 yards and a TD for SJ. Junior RB Cody Sampson ran 18 times for 87 yards.

Cass finished with 118 yards on 17 carries for SA.

The game was a cross-over battle between SJ of the Cape American and SA of the Cape National.

"They were a better football team than us today," SA coach Mark Reardon said. "This has to be a useful loss for us. I hope our kids understand the value of this and see what has to be done as far as developing a prorgram like St. Joe."

St. Joe travels to Mainland (2-5) next week. St. Augustine is home vs. Pleasantville (0-7).
