Football: Moorestown edges Camden
By Phil Anastasia
Anthony Bonett forced and recovered a fumble on the 3-yard line with 0:28 on the clock as Moorestown survived a Camden comeback and emerged with a 20-15 victory in WJFL action on Saturday.
Camden drove from its own 25 to the Moorestown 5 behind sophomore quarterback Khalil Williams. The Panthers lost a fumble on a third-and-goal play.
"I ripped it out and it fell on the ground," Bonett said of the football. "I just fell on it. I knew it was the play of the game."
Sidney Ruffin caught two TD passes from Tyreek Robinson for Moorestown (4-2), the No. 10 team in The Inquirer Top 10.
Ruffin finished with four catches for 110 yards. Bonett scored on a 2-yard run and also set up another TD with a 59-yard KOR to the Camden 15 late in the first half.
Williams was 5-for-25 passing for Camden. But the sophomore completed three of those passes for 40 yards in the last drive.
Williams also ran 48 yards for a TD to pull the Panthers within 20-15 late in the third quarter.
Camden is 1-4 but has lost to three teams in the Top 10 -- Delsea, Camden Catholic and Moorestown.
"We're getting there," first-year Camden coach Dwayne Savage said.
