Football: Timber Creek beats Eastern

Senior Bryce Shade scored four touchdowns in four ways to lead Timber Creek to a 39-13 victory over in a WJFL inter-division game Thursday night.

Shade, a 5-7, 170-pound athlete better known as a Region 7 champion wrestler, scored on a 36-yard run, a 40-yard return of a teammates' fumble, a 75-yard kickoff return and a 59-yard reception.

TC coach Rob Hinson said Shade played "the game of his life."

Hinson said he told Shade before the game he was "the most underrated player in the state of New Jersey."

Senior RB Khalil Pierce ran 10 times for 109 yards and TD for TC (1-1).

Junior QB Tom Flacco was 10-for-19 for 185 yards for Eastern (1-1). Flacco ran for both TDs but was sacked seven times.

Timber Creek (1-1), the No. 3 team in The Inquirer Top 10, played without defensive end Dajaun Drennon, who was injured in an automobile accident on his way to school on Thursday morning.

Drennon,a  North Carolina recruit, needed 11 stitches, according to Hinson. Drennon watched the game from the Timber Creek sideline. He is likely to miss one more game, Hinson said.

Even without Drennon and fellow North Carolinas recruit Greg Webb, a defensive tackle who is recovering from knee surgery, Timber Creek was able to shut down Eastern’s running game and pressure Flacco.

Timber Creek junior tackle Donte Hardwick had three sacks and senior end Myles Nash had two.
