Football: Timber Creek's Webb to miss four games

Timber Creek defensive tackle Greg Webb said Friday he is likely to miss the first four games of the season.

The 6-2, 300-pound Webb, who has commited to attend North Carolina on a football scholarship, is recovering from Feb. 9 surgery on his right knee.

Webb ran some sprints during Friday's practice but did not participate in any football activities. He watched most of practice with a brace on his knee.

"It's frustrating but I know I have to take care of my knee," Webb said. "I have a lot of faith in my team."

Webb almost certainly will miss the Sept. 7 opener between Timber Creek and Camden Catholic. The WJFL Constitution Division clash will match teams that likely will be ranked in the Top 5 in SJ, with TC likely to be the preseason No. 1 team.

TC was 12-0 last season and Webb was an All-SJ defensive tackle. CC was 10-1.

TC's first five games: Camden Catholic (9/7), Eastern (9/13), Cherry West (9/21), Williamstown (9/28, in another clash of likely Top 5 teams) and Moorestown (10/5, in another game with major WJFL Constitution and SJ 4 implications).

Webb said he hopes to return to action in early October. TC coach Rob Hinson said October would mark eight months of recovery from surgery by Webb, which is the rough estimate that his doctors gave for his return for football action.

TC still will have an imposing defense without Webb, led by DEs Dajaun Drennon (North Carolina) and Myles Nash (Rutgers) as well as CB Eric Church (Kent State). The Chargers also have veterans such as DBs Bill Burton and Bryce Shade and talented young players such as junior LB Justice Davila (who is drawing D-I interest, according to Hinson) and sophomore safety Kareem Ali (ditto), among others.
