Virginia infielder Steve Bruno, a Gloucester Catholic graduate, was selecetd by the Chicago Cubs in the seventh-round of the MLB first-year player draft on Tuesday.

Virginia infielder Steve Bruno, a Gloucester Catholic graduate, was selecetd by the Chicago Cubs in the seventh-round of the MLB first-year player draft on Tuesday.

Bruno, who lives in Audubon, was the 224th overall pick. He's a red-shirt sophomore second baseman.

Bruno hit .370 this season for Virginia and tied a program single-season mark wth 23 doubles. His 88 hits were sixth all-time for a single season for the Cavaliers.

The 5-9, 175-pound Bruno hit six homers and had a team-best 54 RBIs. He batted .380 in ACC play, second-best in the conference.

Bruno was drafted in the 26th round by the Yankees out of high school but elected to go to Virginia.
