Baseball: Cherokee beats Millville in Diamond

Jim Rossi pitched a three-hitter as Cherokee beat Millville 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Diamond Classic Satursday at Deptford.

Rossi, a senior RHP, strruck out five and walked four. He faced just 28 batters.

Cherokee (17-3), the No. 1 team in the rankings, ended the game with a doubleplay with Millville's dangerous Andrew Biggs in the on-deck.

The Chiefs face the Washington Twp.-St. Augustine winner in Sunday's semifinals.

Millville (14-6), the No. 3 team in the rankings, was shorthanded without senior Aaron Cox, who is out for the year with mononucleosis, according to coach Roy Hallenebeck.

Sophomores Jake Powell and Brandan Gumm had key hits for Cherokee.
