POSTED: Saturday, May 19, 2012, 2:03 PM

Jim Rossi pitched a three-hitter as Cherokee beat Millville 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Diamond Classic Satursday at Deptford.

Rossi, a senior RHP, strruck out five and walked four. He faced just 28 batters.

Cherokee (17-3), the No. 1 team in the rankings, ended the game with a doubleplay with Millville's dangerous Andrew Biggs in the on-deck.

The Chiefs face the Washington Twp.-St. Augustine winner in Sunday's semifinals.

Millville (14-6), the No. 3 team in the rankings, was shorthanded without senior Aaron Cox, who is out for the year with mononucleosis, according to coach Roy Hallenebeck.
