Baseball: Washington Twp. rallies past CH East

Tyler Fisher made the most of his first varsity at bat.

The junior rapped an RBI single with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Washington Township to a 4-3 victory over Cherry Hill East Tuesday in an Olympic American baseball game.

Washington Twp. (2-0, 1-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the second game in a row. The Minutemen did the same in an 8-7 victory over Bishop Eustace on Monday.

"We might look look pretty but when it comes time to win the game these kids are going to try to find a way to do it," WT coach Bill Alvaro said.

The game featured a good pitching matchup between junior right-handers Billy Grubb of WT and Alex Dimpter of CHE.

Grubbs went the distance, striking out 12. Two of CHE's three runs were unearned.

Dimpter pitched six innings and allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts. He left the game with a 3-1 lead.

WT rallied in the 7th on doubles by Ryan Long and Shaine Hughes as well as some shaky defense by CHE (1-1, 0-1).

WT scored on the tying run on a double error on a play when CHE appeared to have the Minutemen's only baserunner picked off first.

Hughes' double and two intentional walks loaded the bases for Fisher, who drove a 2-1 pitch down the third-base line for the game-winning hit.

"It's pretty awesome," said Fisher, who was mobbed by his teammates after rounding first base.
