Football: CH East beats Cherokee, 57-56

In the wildest game of this or any other season, Cherry Hill East beat Cherokee 57-56 in double overtime on Saturday.

Jesse Gold's two-point conversion run lifted East to victory and popped the cork on a celebration on the Cougars' sideline.

East went for two after pulling within 56-55 in the second OT because star running back Brian Regan was injured earlier in the possession.

Regan ran 37 times for 280 yards and two touchdowns.

Cherokee junior Zaire Williams, who spent his freshman year at CHE, ran 42 times for 385 yards and six TDs.

Both teams were eliminated from playoff contention.

CHE is 5-3 and needed a win plus a lot of help. They didn't get enough.

Cherokee also is 5-3. The Chiefs would have gotten a playoff berth with a win but couldn't stop CHE's attack.

CHE's Rob Taylor scored on a 66-yard run and a 14-yard reception and also had an 89-yard KOR for TD nullified bty penalty.

CHE's Taj Frazier scored on a 13-yard run and a 89-yard reception.

"Best sporting event I've ever been a part of," Gold said.
