Football: Eastern beats Winslow

Senior LB Anthony Gallo made a tackle on a fourth-and-goal play from the 3-yard line to save Eastern's 30-26 victory over Winslow on Monday.

Gallo tackled Billy Johnson for a 6-yard loss on a play that began with 0:39 on the clock.

Winslow had driven from its own 34 to the Eastern 3 behind Johnson (4 catches, 45 yards) and quarterback Adonis Melvins (11-for-21, 128 yards passing, 12 carries, 64 yards).

Tyrone Thompson ran for 2 TDs and Tom Flacco ran for one score and passed for another for Eastern (3-5).

Melvins ran for a score and passed for another for Winslow (2-6).

Gallo's game-saving tackle was a touch ironic since most of the game was dominated by offense, with a serious shortage of tackling.

But Gallo blitzed from the right side and was waiting for Johnson, who was in motion from  right to left and took an inside handoff from Melvins.

"We wanted to put the ball in the hands of our best athlete," Winslow coach Calvin Thompson said.
