Camden Catholic's Coleman: Syracuse was right for me

There isn't much defensive line in Marcus Coleman's past.

But there's a lot in his future.

Coleman, a 6-0, 275-pound rising senior, has committed to Syracuse University for football.

Although Coleman played "just a handful" of downs at defensive line last season, that was the position he's projected to play at the Big East school. Coleman also will play defensive tackle as well as offensive tackle this upcoming season for Camden Catholic.

"He can be a dominating guy," Camden Catholic coach Gil Brooks said at a press conference to announce Coleman's decision Wednesday night at the high school. "He's got a great motor. He's got tremendous power. He's got very good quickness."

Coleman said he visited Syracuse in early July and made his decision along with his mother and his uncle. He also had an offer from Delaware and was being recruited by schools such as Duke, Rutgers and Villanova.

"I knew I wanted to be an Orangeman," Coleman said.

Coleman said he was impressed with head coach Doug Marrone as well as defensive coordinator Scott Shafer and defensive line coach Tim Daoust.

"They are all about developing the total person, not just the football player," Coleman said. "That's what drew me to Syracuse."
