PSPCA seized five-foot gator from South Philly home

Humane agents on Tuesday seized a five-foot long alligator - and three flesh-eating piranha - from a home in South Philadelphia.

The gator, named Kurt, was living in the basement of the home of an exterminator who got him from a customer.

The owner said he fed him cheap chicken cuts and put a baby pool with heat lamps in the basement to make him comfortable.

But that wasn't good enough for Pennsylvania SPCA agents who told him it was against the law to keep alligators or piranha.

The alligator did not appear to have health problems but was to undergo a medical exam just in case before being transported to a rescue. The fate of the piranha was not yet known.
