World working German Shepherds competition comes to Philly

Philadelphia is the site next week of the 2013 WUSV World Championship for German Shepherd Dogs.

The prestigious event, which will be held at PPL Stadium Oct. 17-20, features dogs and their handlers from around the world as they compete for title of World Champion, while countries vie for team titles.

Hosted by the German Shepherd Dog Club of America Inc. and the German Shepherd Dog Club of America-Working Dog Association Inc., the event will showcase the best working German Shepherds from over 30 different countries including Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Hungary, England, South Africa, Mexico, South American, Canada and, of course, the United States

The event highlights the teamwork of dog and handler as they execute precision and unity drills in tracking, obedience and protection. It's being held in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the German Shepherd in the United States.

The local team of Jim Hill and his German shepherd Zwack from Montogomery County (on the video below) are alternates in the competition.

Tickets are on sale now at or by phone through Comcast Tix: 800-298-4200. For more information visit the event website.

Those who cannot make the event are encouraged to buy a $20 ticket for a Veteran, wounded warrior, police officer or fire fighter. The GSDCA (German Shepherd Dog Club of America) will deliver those tickets.
