Filling four-legged tummies this holiday season

Pet food drives and giveaways to struggling pet owners abound this holiday season as more animal lovers open their hearts and their pantries to support those in need.

If you are able to give this season, there are pet food drives and shelters worth supporting all over the Philadelphia/South Jersey region. If you and your pet are facing tough times, don't despair, there are organizations, businesses and kind people ready to help.

Here are some bulletins that have crossed our transom:

DELCO GROUPS HELP NEEDY PETS AND THEIR PEOPLE

This holiday season Best Friends No More Homeless Pets volunteers and All Things Pawssible Animal Rescue volunteers are collaborating with local businesses in Delaware County to collect pet food for families in need for the second Forever Home Four Legged Food drive in Delaware County. The first food drive was held in June 2009 and over the course of 12 weeks generated 3,000 pounds of donated food for Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

HAY BANK HELPS HORSES

Maryland horse owners who are struggling can take advantage of the newly-created hay bank, established by Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue in Mt. Airy, Md.  The hay bank provides 30 days of free hay to needy horse owners. The rescue hopes that it can one day expand the hay bank to Pennsylvania.
