Celebrate holidays and help pets in need

Share the love this holiday season with needy pets. Here is my first installment of holiday happenings in the Philadelphia/South Jersey region.

Starting Dec. 7  - Need a little holiday cheer? The Plumsted Township Trap Neuter Return (TNR) and New Egypt Girl Scout Troop #603 cordially invite you to visit their tree at the Festival of Trees. It is located at Tuckerton Seaport, 120 West Main Street, Tuckerton, NJ. The Tuckerton Seaport will be open Monday through Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., through Jan. 6th.

All tree decorations were handmade by girl scouts. You can help support the cause of feral cats by voting for TNR tree by placing a donation in the ballot box. The tree with the most votes (money) will win the distinction of being named "Best In Show." All proceeds from the tree will go to assisting the Plumsted Trap, Neuter, Return Program for Feral Cats, which is a donation-only program run by caring volunteers.

The Voorhees Animal Orphanage, a no-kill, open intake nonprofit shelter, at 419 Cooper Rd. Voorhees is hosting an open house on from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 8. Also on Saturday and Sunday the pet pictures with Santa at PetSmart in Marlton will help support the orphanage.

Check your local PetSmart store for a chance for your pet to pose with Santa and help less fortunate animals. PetSmart stores throughout the region are holding these Santa Claws photo ops on Dec. 7 and 8 and Dec. 14 and 15 from 11 to 4 p.m. $5 from every sale goes to help area shelters.

Last year the event raised $864,165 for more than 2,700 animal-welfare groups across the country.

Now through Dec. 30
