Philadelphia area animal activists plan to let their voices be heard before the Eagles/Jaguars game tonight.

The Pennsylvania SPCA and Best Friends Animal Society, the Utah-based organization that took in 22 of the pit bulls seized from Michael Vick, are hosting a rally for the 2nd Chance Dogs of Philadelphia.

These are the  pit bulls that have been rescued from abuse and neglect by the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement Officers or found as strays by Animal Control.

More than 80 percent of the PSPCA’s canine population in Philadelphia is made up of pit bulls and pit bull mixes who have been rescued from abuse, neglect or dog fighting operations. The 2nd Chance Dogs of the PSPCA are barking for the opportunity at forever homes. Supporters of the PSPCA, animal lovers and friends are invited to help raise awareness of the plight of pit bulls in shelters and encourage adoption.

The event is being held from 4 - 7 p.m. in the PSPCA parking lot at 350 E. Erie Ave. Participants are invited to bring their dogs and treats for dogs and humans will be served.

Meanwhile, an email circulating around cyberspace is urging animal lovers and their dogs to protest at Lincoln Field tonight - which may well mark the return to the gridiron for Vick after almost two years.

The protest, which the email says is not sponsored by any particular group, aims to spread the word about homeless dog adoption, let the Eagles know that animal lovers are angry about the Michael Vick deal, and urge corporate sponsors (among them Philadelphia Newspapers which owns the Inquirer) to divest themselves of the Eagles.

Ok I admit it. I'm flying in the rabid PETA protesters. Do you know how much tofu I had to buy to convince them to come here?

Hey, if cows didn't want to be eaten they could climb to the top of the food chain like we did.

Do we protest against how many pigs and horses and cows we kill each day, I don't agree what Vick done but he did his time and it's time to move on. Go down to a slaughter house and then you can see what I mean

Ah, that's why the Ink is so "this all about good Christian values and second chances and the hope that we have enough money from our sponsors to not get taken over by creditors." Poor dogs. It is their misfortune that they must rely on humans.

Douglas, I had to take on an illegal pit bull breeder, dog fight ring, and a local drug dealer who raised pit bulls to be his pet then bait dogs. The drug dealer and his hired dog-torturer threatened to kill me. I'm pretty sure that's not how it works when you buy a chicken. The harm of dog fighting extends to humans. After watching unspeakable torture of this dog and the other dogs in the illegal operation, the warrants came through, and the dogs were confiscated. Those that were healthy enough and strong enough were saved, the others were put down. The breeder moved to DE, and his sister threatened me as well. I reminded her that she was on probation. But for the rest of my life, I have to look behind my back for these people for taking a stand about what is right and humane. That is my burden, and I took it. But I resent a-holes who defend Vick like what he did is nothing, and has no harm, no cost. I'm going down to the stadium today just because the Vick supporters are such boneheads and heartless ghetto trash.

A protest against Vick is protest against inhumanity of people who are also part of the worst of what is killing Philly. The drugs, the crime, the scamming ghetto mentality, all of it goes hand in hand with dog-fighting.

people are so silly, this man regardless of who he is served his time in prison for some dogs. As an african american, I dont even fully agree with the NAACP being there either. Let this man go back to work, like every other person that comes out of prison that actually have a job to even go back too. It's just football! It's also crazy that people are expecting the Eagles and/or Michael Vick to volunteer to do something extra (outside of the time he already served) with animal rights. Vick doesn't have to do anything else besides do his job, which is running and throwing a ball! Nobody is making women serve at a daycare center after having an abortion...just my thoughts.

Oh man, I don't think it's a good idea for Vick protesters to go anywhere near that stadium tonight. If you are from here you know that once a player puts on an Eagles jersey Philly fans will rally around him no matter what his background. There will be 65,000 Eagles fans down there tonight who will take it as an attack on one of their own if you protesting Vick. It's real simple, to an Eagles fan protest Vick = protest Eagles. You might as well wear a Cowboys jersey and a Giants hat while your at it. Think about it people, hornets nest, I don't want to see anything bad happen. Oh man...

Yep, they're protesting Vick...because apparently, the proper way to off a dog is to bake the dog in a hot car like VA SCPA's Robin Starr did.
