Wings beat Stealth, 10-9

Philadelphia Wings rookie Kevin Crowley scored the game-winning overtime goal as the Wings beat the Washington Stealth 10 - 9 Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center.

Crowley, who scored 5 on the night, started the game with a hat trick in the first eight minutes of the first quarter to get the Wings off to a 3 – 0 start. But the Stealth held the Wings scoreless in the second and tied the game at halftime.

"The next shot can be the most important," said Crowley, who was named the NLL Rookie of the Week last week and got an assist. "All I want to do is keep pressing forward and take smart shots."

Wings head coach Johnny Mouradian said one of the team's performance goals for the season is to win one-goal games.  He said Wings goalie Brandan Miller, who had three saves in the sudden death overtime period, helped keep the Wings in the game.

"Brandan really was seeing the ball tonight," Mouradian said. "He was mentally prepared."

Crowley credited the team's defense for helping keep them in the game. The Wings were able to limit Paul Rabil, who was named 2009 Major League Lacrosse MVP, to one goal.

Brandon Mundorf had two goals and an assist for the Wings, including one goal in the fourth quarter from the left side that helped give the team momentum with a 7 – 6 lead.

"It all starts in the locker room – there were times tonight it wasn't going our way… but in this league you have to play for 60 minutes and you can't get down," said Brendan Mundorf, who had two goals on the night.

Wings' Dan Dawson led the team in assists with four and Drew Westervelt scored three goals, before the 8,029 fans in attendance at the game. Stealth players Matt Beers and Cam Sedgwick lead the Stealth in scoring with two goals each.

The Wings are coming off a 22 – 12 loss against the Rochester Knighthawks.  Next the Wings will take on the Buffalo Bandits Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Buffalo for their first away game of the season.
