WIP getting close to finding new co-host for Josh Innes

With Eagles training camp opening up, SportsRadio 94.1 WIP is nearing a decision on hiring a new co-host to join Josh Innes in their popular afternoon time slot.

Sports host Nick Kayal is getting a shot to return to Philadelphia radio in a big way as SportsRadio 94.1 WIP nears a decision on hiring a new co-host to join Josh Innes in their popular afternoon time slot.

Kayal, who walked away from his job hosting "The Nick Kayal Show" for 97.5 The Fanatic back in April, has been give a chance to co-host with Josh Innes on Friday from 2-6 p.m. on SportsRadio 94.1 WIP.

Kayal, who has been hosting an afternoon drive time show for SiriusXM from 3-6 p.m., suddenly found himself without a job last Friday after the station renegotiated its deal with Bleacher Report and took full control of the channel. Morning host Dan Levy was also let go as a result of Sirius taking full control.

"I'm very excited to for the privilege to be on an iconic station like WIP," Kayal said. "Josh has turned Philly sports talk radio upside down. He is a talent who is all in. I'd love to do damage with him. This will be fun!"

WIP has been placing fill-in hosts with Innes all week in an attempt to find a co-host to replace Tony Bruno, who surprisingly announced his retirement a few weeks back. WIP stalwarts Marc Farzetta, Hollis Thomas and Spike Eskin all got their shot at co-hosting this week, while Jody McDonald spent several days co-hosting with Innes prior to his vacation.

WIP is also looking outside its office as it tries to find the right co-host, giving co-hosting opportunities to AP sports writer Rob Maaddi and former Eagles star and ex-congressman Jon Runyan, who sources say impressed management during his co-hosting stint on Tuesday.

After Kayal, Rickie Ricardo is set to co-host with Innes on Monday, then I'm told management over at WIP will start to focus on their final choices. In the past, Innes has publicly favored hosting alongside MacDonald, who currently anchors the station's 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. slot.

With Eagles training camp opening up, management at WIP hopes to have a decision about Innes' new co-host by the middle of August.
