Although he didn’t go as far as to name Michael Vick the Jets’ Week 1 starting quarterback, Rex Ryan certainly accepted it as a possibility.

When he was asked if the recently acquired Vick could be the team’s starter come week one, Ryan replied:

“I would say yes.”

“It is going to be really interesting to watch that competition unfold,” he continued, before expressing some confidence in his incumbent quarterback.

“Geno Smith is going to be hard to beat out.”

A training camp competition will be used to determine the best man for the job.

“Everyone has the same chance,” Ryan said. “There will be competition to where we’ll find the best guy, who we think is the best guy moving forward.”

Vick’s familiarity with Marty Mornhinweg’s system is a plus in Ryan’s eyes.

“That’s huge, because both your guys have experience in the system, and there’s not a learning curve,” he stated.

“I think his experience is something that will help. That’s why I think there’s going to be great competition.”

With Marc Sanchez out of Jets’ mix entirely, it will be interesting to see who is calling the shots for the Jets come week one.
