It's not "small" ball. It's baseball, being played the proper way. EVERY team should embrace that.

Unfortunately, DennyP is right. I certainly wouldn't bet on JRoll changing his approach. He has his new contract.

Gomer Gump's idea of small ball is hitting the ball so far, it appears very small. BT, it looks like Gomer may have lost his job with Nutri-System.

Guys. Did you listen to the tape? Dave and Bob said this "new" strategy will be mainly to put another thought in opponent's minds. They are not going to become, in Murph's words, an '80's team. The mind game continues. I was surprised to learn (were you guys?) that the Cardinals bunted nearly as infrequently as the Phillies.

I'm not buying it. That strategy only works if the other team actually believes it. Nobody believes the Phils will play small ball all of a sudden so why should they even worry about "the threat"? It's like the Howard shift, teams won't stop playing the Howard shift if he keeps hitting into it just because he announced he was practicing hard in the off season to hit the other way. He'd have to prove it over the 1st couple weeks of the season and only then would teams adjust.

Bunting once in a while is cool, but with JROLL, I just want him to lay off that high fastball. He always pops that up. When he swings at strikes, he hits line drives and hits the ball hard. Pretty simple.. be a bit more patient, work the pitcher, and sure, bunt a little more. Play smart. Nuff said.

Ryan Plays "Small Ball" all the time.

He swings as hard as he can at a pitch outside and low. He misses and it goes into the catcher's mitt.

That's about as small as you can play baseball, and he does it at least once a game. Sometimes as many as 4 times a game.

for all you wiseacres and dropouts from comedy central, listen up please..it's called situational baseball!!!if the opportunity presents itself in a close game, playing for one run can be the difference..and no one is suggesting #6 bunt,blaqjaq...and no one is saying or implying that jroll turn into a slap/bunt type hitter...how many games per season are decided by one run???a lot,right...well,this edition of the phillies do not have the capability of hitting 3 run homers every nite,so a little small ball could be effective...worked for the cardinals last year, didn't it?? by my count, only 2 of the previous 11 posts tried to approach this discussion sanely;the rest of them resorted to outright buffoonery and a lack of comprehension as to what was being said in the video..how can some people be so thickheaded???who censors this stuff???how do the previous 2 posts further the discussion???just sayin'..
