The Phillies have announced that Ryan Howard's season is over due to a broken toe.

Don't remember Ryan Howard injuring his toe during last night's game? That's because it didn't happen during a play on the field. Howard broke his toe after he dropped the huge, lead pipe he swings in the on-deck circle on his foot.

The good news is that it's apparently not severe enough of an injury to affect him long term, but the team has decided to pull the plug on his season a few games early just to be safe.

This is the second year in a row that Howard's season ends because of a freak injury, and the lead pipe ensured that a third-straight Phillies season won't end with a Ryan Howard at-bat.
