New York Mets sign Tim Tebow, ex-Eagles QB
Tebow has not played organized baseball since he was a junior in high school in 2005. Now he's been signed by a Mets team which as of Thursday morning was tied for the second wild card playoff spot with the St. Louis Cardinals.
There are so many snarky things to potentially say about this that I don't know where to start, but let's put the snark aside for a moment and just deal with the news.
"While I and the organization are mindful of the novel nature of this situation, this decision was strictly driven by baseball," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters on a conference call. "This was not something that was driven by marketing considerations or anything of the sort. We are extremely intrigued with the potential Tim has."
The Associated Press reported that Tebow will receive a $100,000 signing bonus.

The Mets made the decision to sign Tebow on Wednesday, a source said. General manager Sandy Alderson met with team co-owner Jeff Wilpon, who signed off on Alderson's suggestion that they get a deal done.
Atlanta Braves general manager John Coppolella had confirmed earlier this week that they had interest in Tebow and had "multiple" conversations with Tebow's representatives as a step toward signing him to a professional baseball contract.
