RGIII to Donovan McNabb: 'It's probably best we don't talk'

Robert Griffin III is on the cover of GQ this month, as Washington's much-hyped quarterback gave the magazine an exclusive interview.

It's a long piece, and it gets deep into Griffin's recovery from a gruesome knee injury during last year's playoffs.

The part of the interview that will most interest Eagles fans ended up in this post on GQ's websites with outtakes that didn't make the print story.

You might remember that earlier this summer, former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb said he wanted to meet with Griffin to offer some advice about life in the NFL. Griffin politely declined the invitation.

GQ's Brendan Vaughan asked Griffin about that exchange in his interview. This time, RGIII wasn't as polite.

"I don't think Donovan is an idiot by any means," Griffin said. "But right now, it's probably best we don't talk."

Will that stop anyone else from talking? Probably not. Will that stop McNabb from talking? Given his jobs with NBC Sports' radio network and the new Fox Sports 1 TV channel, I'd guess the same answer.

Oh, and there's the small matter of Mike Shanahan not allowing Griffin to play at all in the preseason - even though Griffin says he's healthy enough to go.

That will quiet everyone down real fa... no, it won't at all. You think people in DC would rather discuss immigration policy instead?

If Shanahan gets his way, Griffin's first game action of any kind since the injury will come on September 9 against the Eagles.

Because at the end of the day, everything is about Philadelphia.

UPDATE: Paul Domowitch of the Daily News tweeted a few interesting quotes from his long interview with McNabb earlier this summer. They seem simple enough, but why can't I get thee idea out of my head that McNabb is just trying to throw himself in the spotlight?

Donovan McNabb told me last month that Redskins coaches that he still has contact with -- not the Shanahans -- had suggested. . .
. . . he get in touch with RGIII and talk to him about how to handle life as a star QB in a fishbowl.
McNabb: "I was trying to help RGIII. I was trying to tell him, stop being in the media so much. Rehab the knee and be ready for Week 1. . .
". . . and don't worry about anything else.''
