The best Andy Reid analysis we've read so far

Sometimes, when people comment on our stories, they leave terrible, awful comments that we need to remove from the site because they're racist, profane, or just plain offensive.

Sometimes, however, they leave gems like this comment from Joe Checkler - a.k.a "JoeyScoops" - that we found on a Marcus Hayes column published on Wednesday.

Checkler, a Giants fan, wrote a poem to poke fun at his many green-blooded friends, most notably his brother-in-law.

Here is the comment as it appeared on our site:

Twas the night they fired Andy, and all throughout Philly
The mood was all different, euphoric and silly
They’d finally done it, they killed off old Reid
What a gift for the city, the best gift indeed

No more bad challenges or wasted timeouts
No more embarrassing home playoff routs
No more sad nights that spoiled the fun
No more long passes on third down and one

From Center City to Jersey and all through Bucks County
Miles of relief for the fat man’s bounty
But what now that the big guy is out of the mix
Have they forgotten Johnson’s defense or 4th-and 26?

The 5 title games and 6 division crowns
Andy’s Eagles weren’t exactly the Cleveland Browns
He drafted McNabb, oh wait, they hated him too
In the town that serenades heroes with choruses of boos

Oh Schmidty and Moses, McNabb and now Andy
As popular around here as Hurricane Sandy
Be careful what you wish for now that it’s not his job
This is the man who got value for Kevin Kolb

He was chubby and mustachioed, a great football mind
But they laughed when they saw him, he wasn’t their kind
He never panicked, despite the commotion
Even when Vick couldn’t throw a ball in the ocean

He believed in his ways, and the league came around
He jumpstarted the trend that killed ground n’ pound
But he wasn’t Vermeil, he didn’t seem regal
Despite that he completely turned around the Eagles

But now he’s left his office for one last time
His demise isn’t a victimless crime
Be careful what you wish for you silly Philly fans
Without big ol’ Andy, you may be also rans

Thanks, Joe, and keep 'em coming.

So we get another article saying that we're lame for wanting Andy out? Has anyone seen the list for most HC wins without a championship? Great coaches but I'd rather have a "one and done" come in and GET US THAT RING!!
Marty Schottenheimer - George Allen - Dan Reeves - Mark Levy - Bud Grant - Chuck Knox - Jeff Fisher and finally, Andy Reid. Time's yours...

Joe has too much time on his hands. Reid delivered exactly the same final result as every other coach since 1960. No championship!!!!

I can only imagine how many terrible, awful comments they had to remove from that Hayes article which yet still boasts an impressive 224 comments of pure vitriol. Sensationalism at its finest my friends

Reid's problem was that he was too locked into his precious, complex playbook. If things didn't go right, he refused to make proper adjustments. No, no… you see… if we just stay with the playbook it'll all magically work itself out…no, really it will. He was also married to his flawed QBs (big-game choking McNabb, and sideshow Vick). Add to that his lack of loyalty to the teams top defensive players over the years, letting them fly the coup rather than keeping them (because it's the playbook that's the thing, anybody can play those positions, doncha know). Jim Johnson's (RIP, Jimmy) defensive scheme was what kept Reid's team's in the playoff hunt during the "big years".

all you morons ripping the Eagles every day and yet defending and sanctioning the biggest imbecile g.m. in all sports (that's the Clueless Ruben who detroyed a franchise despite one of highest budgets in baseabll and one of the best farm systems when he started -- with zero ability to evaluate talent or make an intelligent trade or signing) are all a bunch of hypocrites

Here's the best Reid analysis I've read over the past month:
    http://www.slate.com/articles/sports/sports_nut/2013/01/andy_reid_fired_the_eagles_coach_was_good_enough_to_make_you_hate_him_for.html
Still waiting for this kind of analysis from someone at the Inq or Philly News, post-Sheil.

He was also the one who drafted Kevin Kolb. Can't have it both ways. If Kolb sucks and Reid deserves credit for getting DRC for him, then he should be criticized for using a 2nd round pick on a QB that sucks.

I don't see what the big deal is. The NFL is a ruthless league. And not an exact science. Just like people think Eli Manning is "lucky" and that Peyton would never recover to play again. Both have rings. Andy inheritied a great draft after they fired Rhoades and had this guy run the draft: http://www.ourlads.com/proscoutconfidential/about.htm - Andy then drafted well. Did an "ok" coaching job, and they became a contender. Won titles, made it to the big game, and LOST. Then the slide started. And he should have been fired. Jeff Lurie decided it was ok to win games, make money, and roll the dice of disfunction than to replace Andy. And here we are, left with a smoking rotting corpse of a team. It's fairly simple.

Typical giddy New Yawk fan....giddy because their fraud Super Bowl championship teams (only the '86 team was legit). He shouldn't like Andy Reid - Andy OWNED the Giants....he dominated NY, which is why it's so galling that those frauds have (2) titles under Coughlin....and somehow fortune turned the other cheek on us! Life isn't fair!

He never panicked? what do you call firing castillio or turning over playcalling to his offensive coordinator brad childress when he was on the verge of missing the playoffs (only to take it back again the following year)

I'm not exactly worried that Reid will win a Superbowl, wherever he goes, or that the pathetic Eagles, led by those Big Tough Football Men, Jeffy and Howie, will either.

When the Eagles go back to being the 1963-1975 Eagles, fans will finally realize that Andy was good for the franchise. Was it time to move in a new directions? Yes. Sometime be careful what you wish for.

Wow, how hypocritical. Didn't the local writers jump on the national guys for making these exact statements? "You'll miss him when he's gone" " you booed the best Quarterback in franchise history out of town" " blah, blah , blah. Then you post a poem from a Giants fan? I liked it better when you stole stories from New York writers. New low. WE WILL NOT MISS ANDY WHEN HE IS GONE ONLY THE OTHER NFC EAST FANS WILL!

'Twas the night at the computer, I went to philly.com
What I saw on the screen hit just like a bomb
Looking for content so noble and true
The two Philly papers stopped reporting the news

Pictures of hipsters wrapped in overpriced scarves
Sweet Lindsey Lohan just crashed her new car!
Should Charlie be fired? There's no better reason
The writers are bored in a quiet offseason

Short empty articles with broken-up grammer
Bearded young "columnists" who sputter and stammer
Reading this slop I was boiling with rage
Bolaris' girlfriend was headlining the page

Once we were kings, covering heaven and hell
Swimming in Pulitizers, circulation was swell
Though the content is written for the dumb ones, you see
I keep coming back 'cause they give it for free

Dumb on so many levels. That this paper thinks there is something great here or that anyone else can't figure out that Andy was great in the beginning and tailed off at the end. No wonder this paper can't make any money. Would we be worse off if it finally went chapter 13 instead of chapter 11?

Let's hope Andy takes the Kansas City job. If he coaches the Cardinals, you just KNOW he's going to come into the Linc next season and embarrass the Eagles, same as Kevin Kolb did this year. So, Andy....save us the humiliation and take the safe job in the midwest where we won't have to see you again anytime soon.

When Kolbab "embarrassed" us, it was Reid who was in charge. If Reid is hired by the Cardinals, who do you think will be embarrassed this time?
