New documentary shows shaky start between DeSean Jackson and Andy Reid

Although DeSean Jackson has been a key piece to the Eagles' offense throughout the past few seasons under Andy Reid, a new DeSean-based documentary reveals that the star receiver got off to a shaky start with his former head coach.

During the 2008 NFL Draft, Jackson, a projected first round pick, slipped into the second round where the Eagles drafted him 49th-overall. However, Jackson's celebration was short-lived as he received a sobering phone call from his new head shortly after the selection.

After getting off the phone, Jackson called his inner-circle around to share the sentiment of Reid's call. "Hey, I just want to say one thing," Jackson told them, according to Tim McManus of PhillyMag.com. "I was on the phone with Andy Reid. He said, 'I don't want your family to be a problem. I don't want to deal with your dad.' He said some bad things. I just wanted to let you know. That's kind of messed up, though."

Reid's concern apparently stemmed from Jackson's father's reputation for being very involved in his son's football career.

"I never gave him time off," Bill Jackson says in the film. "People used to say, 'Why are you doing him like that? You're trying to kill him.''

Jackson's coach at Cal, Jeff Tedford, is on the record saying that while he understood Bill's motives, he did not always go about it the right way. Such a review surely made its way into the NFL draft circle, and may have played a part in DeSean's slip to the second round, as well as the interesting timing of Reid's phone call.

While Reid and Jackson may not have gotten off to the best start, the two were able to strike up a professional relationship as they had some very successful seasons together.
